1. The Nikes of a Champion
By: R.S.

TOPIC: Pretend you are a pair of shoes. Make up a story about one of your days as a pair of shoes.

This story is dedicated to:
Peter Warrick and the Florida State Seminoles

Hi!!! My name is Warren. I belong to Wide Receiver Peter Warrick of the Florida State Seminoles. I am his Nikes. When he put’s me on, he runs like the wind. I have led him to catching lots of touchdowns, and when I say led him, I really mean led him.

Before games, Peter shows me all the football plays and routes we’ll be running. Also, before games, Peter tapes me up so I won’t fall off. When I’m on his feet, he can run, juke, hurdle, spin, and dive. He is amazing when on the field.

This last season, I led Peter to a Fed Ex (Federal Express) Orange Bowl title. We played Michael Vick and the Virginia Tech Hokies. Peter and I had three touchdowns and over 200 yards. We ended up winning and the Florida State Seminoles went home with the trophy. That season the Florida State Seminoles were #1 in the NCAA.

2. The Speedy Preacher

STATEWIDE ASSESSMENT PROGRAM: WRITING, 5th Grade (1999-2000)
TOPIC: 4. Think about someone who would be a good role model. Choose a person you know or know about, and explain what makes the person a good role model.
MODE: Explanatory

Deion Sanders is the Left Cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys. He is also the fastest person in the NFL (National Football League). What makes Deion Sanders a good role model is that he preaches to his whole team. Even the cheerleaders. He preaches to them before every game and every Sunday. Deion Sanders not only preaches, he even baptizes the players. He’s baptized: Running Back Emmitt Smith, Wide Receiver Michael Irvin, Quarterback Troy Aikman, Left Tackle Flozell Adams, and many more.

Not only is Deion Sanders a Left Cornerback, for he is also Wide Receiver, Punt Return, and Kick Return. Whenever Deion scores a touchdown, he looks up at god and yells, “ THANK YOU LORD!!!!!!” In 1997, when asked his favorite book by Sports Illustrated for Kids, he replied, “The Bible.”

The main reason I think that Deion Sanders is a good role model is because he has a charity called “The Sanders Church Fund.” He also knows a lot about god and shares his knowledge about god with others. Other pro football players who preach to there teams are Duce Staley of the Philadelphia Eagles, Willie Roaf of the New Orleans Saints, and Mark Carrier of the Detroit Lions.

3. Book Report

Harry Potter
and the
Prisoner of Azkaban
Book By: J.K. Rowling
Book Report By: R. S.

Before I start telling this tale I have to say something. This is the best book I’ve ever read!!! It not only paints a picture in the readers mind, but also makes you think you’re going one way when you are really going somewhere else. It’s full of thrills, chills, and spills. Now let’s start the story.

It was mid-summer. Harry had been locked up in his room (pretty mach a jail cell) for the whole summer and was doing lots of homework. Dudley’s Aunt Marge was visiting the Dursley’s and this time. Aunt Marge was very mean to Harry and very nice to Dudley. One night, at the dinner table, Aunt Marge really ticked off Harry. She was disrespectful to his memory of his parents. Then, Harry magically inflated Aunt Marge and ran to his room. In his room, he packed his trunk and ran away.

When Harry was walking down the road, he saw a bloodthirsty looking hound. Then, out of nowhere, a bus labeled:

The Knight Bus
appeared. He got on and when asked his name he said it was Neville Longbottom. He lay down on a bed (instead of a seat) and was escorted to London. Once he arrived in London, he went to Diagon Alley and rented a hotel room at the Leaky Cauldron.

He stayed in Diagon Alley until the new school year had almost begun. Harry met the Weasleys at Diagon Alley and rode with them to the train station where he got on at platform 9 and 3/4. On the train, Harry and Ron met up with Hermione. Then, all three of them ran into the last passenger car where they found a sleeping teacher. His name is Professor Lupin. He replaced Professor Lockhart in Defense Against the Dark Arts.

Then, the train stopped and the lights went out. The doors opened and in the car with Harry, Ron, and Hermione in it, a dead like figure stepped on. Its face was not visible for it was under a hood. Its hands were covered in scabs and they were pure green. Just then, Professor Lupin awoke. He got up and said, “EXPECTO PATRONUS!!!” A grey creature flew out of Lupins wand and drove away the figure(which is called a dementor). Then Lupin went back to sleep.

When the train arrived at Hogwarts, everybody went into the castle. They had a big feast and went to bed in their dormitories. What had happened lately in the wizarding world was that a murder convict had escaped from Azkaban. His name was Sirius Black. Everyone thought he was after Harry. To protect the school from him, dementors surrounded the castle.

This year, there were new classes for Harry, Ron, and Hermione, like Divination with Professor Trelawney. In that class, they did stuff like read tarot cards and tea leaves. Harry kept on seeing that dog from the night he left the Dursleys in all his tea cups. He later found out that dog was called a Grim. It haunted grave yards. If you saw it in tea leaves or crystal balls, it means you will die.

Later in the year, third years, like Harry, were aloud to go to Hogsmeade. Hogsmeade is a place that has candy shops, inns, joke shops, and a old house called the Shrieking Shack. Harry wasn’t aloud in Hogsmeade because Black was on the loose. Harry had to stay.

The night everybody came back from Hogsmeade, Sirius Black had tried to break into Gryffindor tower. He slashed the picture of the fat lady, but did not get in. Another time Black tried to break into Gryffindor, he succeeded. He went into the Boys Dormitory and he slashed open Ron’s bed curtains with a 12" knife. Then, Ron screamed. Black ran and got away. Everyone thought Ron had only dreamt it, but no one could explain the slash in the bed curtains.

Five days later, it was Christmas. Harry woke up to find presents on the foot of his bed. He got a red sweater from Mrs. Weasley with the Gryffindor Lion on it. She also gave him a dozen mince pies. There was another package that was long and thin. Harry opened it up and his mouth dropped open. It was the best broomstick money could buy. It was a Firebolt!!!!!

Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick checked it to see if it was jinxed. It ended up that it wasn’t.

Gryffindor won the Quidditch Cup that year with a win over Slytherin. It had been Oliver Wood’s last year. Gryffindor also won the house cup. For winning the Quidditch Cup, Fred and George easley gave Harry a piece of old parchment that if you said the right thing to, it would turn into a map that had every body on it with their names in tiny print. It also showed secret passage ways to get in and out of the castle. This lay out was called the Marauder’s Map.

Later in the story, a Hippogriff named Buckbeak slashed Draco Malfoys arm. Buckbeak had its head chopped off for doing so. Harry, Ron, and Hermione sneak out to calm down Buckbeak. They also find a passage way through the Wamping Willow that Hermione and Harry run through. They were chasing Ron who was being carried of by the Grim. The passage way, or tunnel, led into the Shrieking Shack where villagers used to here howling and screaming.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione find Sirius Black inside of the Shrieking Shack. It turns out that Black was framed. He didn’t kill Lily and James Potter. It was someone named Peter Pettigrew. Peter was really Ron’s rat Scabbers. He had transformed into a rat. Sirius Black wasn’t trying to kill Harry. He was after Scabbers. Also, Professor Lupin was a werewolf.
