Long ago in a kingdom there was a king named Dasaratha. He had two wives. His first wife is Kaulsalya. Kaulsalya had two sons. One was named Rama, and the other was named Lakshmana. Dasaratha second wife was named Kaikeyi. Rama was the oldest son.
One day Dasaratha gave payasa to his two wives. Payasa is a special milk and wheat that makes sons. Then Kaikeyi has a son, and named him Bharatha.
12 years passed then Dasaratha thought he was getting old so his son Rama would rule as king. Rama had no wife so the went to a king that had a daughter.
Then they came to the castle were the king Janaka and his daughter lived. Rama thought that king Janaka daughter was the most beautiful daughter ever. Then the king said, “ If you shoot the sky and thunder comes down then you can marry my daughter Sita.’’
The next day Rama went to king Janaka’s castle again. People gathered around the king and Rama to see if Rama would marry Sita. Rama shot straight into the sky, and thunder came down.So Rama got to marry Sita.
On the wedding day Rama gave Sita a bracelet.
The next day as Kaikeyi was in her room her maid walked and said, “after Rama is king then they will kill you.” Then Kaikeyi asked how will I live. Her maid said, “Remember long ago when the king promised you two boons use those.”
Kaikeyi was walking down the castle to Dasaratha’s room. When she entered the king was getting dressed so he could be nice for when he crowns Rama to be king. The guard told her the king doesn’t want to talk to Kaikeyi.
Kaikeyi didn’t listen to the guard she just walked in his room. Then he told the guards to leave. Then she said, “Remember when you promised me two boons.” Dasaratha hesitated, “ yes.” Then Keykai said “ well I want to use those boons right know. One boon is so that Bhratha will be next to be king,” “But Rama is next in line.”
Then Dasaratha fainted.
Rama was at his room enjoying his wife when the guard said “Rama your father wants you.” Rama went to his father’s castle. And his father said he had to go to exile for 14 years. Rama and Sita got ready and went to exile.
When they got to exile Lakshmana made Rama and Sita a cottage. Then Sita saw a beautiful deer. She made Rama get the deer. Then Sita heard someone say Oh Sita Oh Lakshmana. Sita made Lakshmana go to help Rama.
While Lakshmana was away Ravana took Sita away. When they came back Sita wasn’t anywhere to be seen. They went back to the forest and followed her footprints which led them to talking monkeys.
The monkeys helped them find Sita. Then the great battle began for 3 days and 3 nights. Then Rama killed Ravana. And they tested Sita to see if she only thought of Rama. She pasted the test and they lived happily ever after.
